I was 10 years old when I first looked through the viewfinder of a SLR camera. It belonged to a wildlife photographer I had met while out birdwatching in the north of England where I lived as a kid. The thrill I got then from seeing an image in the camera from a long telephoto lens is still fresh today. I was hooked on photography from that point on..

I have been lucky enough to be able to make a good living as a photographer for most of my life.
After studying the subject part time for three years I worked as a darkroom printer and photographers assistant before shooting commercial and advertising jobs in West Australia, where my family had moved.

After moving back to London (where I was born) in the early 1980's I turned to street and news photography, covering numerous riots, bombings and demonstrations.
Pictures of celebrities and the British royal family were becoming  popular and I started photographing these subjects as well. I freelanced regularily for many of the UK national newspapers and magazines and had pictures published in Time, Life, Paris Match and many more. I was Nikon royal photographer of the year in 1995 and travelled the world shooting news and royal stories.

At different times throughout my career I have been a regular contributor to photo agencies Rex Features, Sipa Press, Corbis, Getty Images and now Media Mode in Australia.
